In 1980s Britain, a group of queer activists led by communist Mark Ashton decided to support the striking miners who were being harshly persecuted by the British government under Margaret Thatcher. The group LGSM (‘Lesbians and Gay Supporting the Miners’) organises fundraising campaigns and addresses a Welsh mining community.  

‘Pride’ shows vividly and with a great deal of humour how both sides learn from each other and rise above their initial mistrust in a joint struggle. The conservative miners increasingly question their traditional, narrow-minded culture, while the shrill and liberal ‘perverts’ gain social awareness. In this way, social progression and cultural emancipation form a unity!  

We want to watch the film and discuss what we can learn from these struggles for today! Followed by a bar evening - come along!
