Jazz, which originated in the southern states of the USA at the beginning of the 20th century, represented a creative subculture that fought against social oppression and for equality. Swing developed from this and spread around the world. In Germany, Austria, France and the Czech Republic, the "Swing Kids", "Schlurfs", "Patapkis" and "Zazous" resisted the Nazis by dancing swing as a protest. The documentary "Schlurfs - Im Swing gegen den Gleichschritt" shows this creative resistance. What can we learn from the resistance of the "swing kids" today, in times of highly structured and isolated studies, increased militarization and newly discussed compulsory military service?
