Invitation
Commemoration: Hiroshima and Nagasaki

Dear fellows,
we warmly invite you to join the commemoration of the atomic bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
On August 6th, 1945, a US bomber dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima. A huge explosion and heat wave turned the seaport into a blazing hell. About 80 percent of the Japanese city was destroyed immediately. Three days later another bomb fell on Nagasaki. In total, 200 000 people were killed and over 100 000 wounded.
We want to commemorate the victims and protest against the policy of deterrence and global armament, which already is capable to destroy the world for multiple times. In contrast, resistance is rising. The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons ICAN, which received the Nobel Peace Prize for their commitment in 2017, spreads hope: They state, the history of nuclear weapons will come to an end, and it's up to humanity how that end looks like. Will it be the end of nuclear weapons or our own end? One of these two scenarios will come true. The ICAN says, that it is not naive to believe in the first choice, and it is not irrational to think that nuclear powers can disarm. It is not idealistic to believe in life rather than fear and annihilation, but it is a necessity. We all face this decision.
(Speech of Beatrice Fihn (ICAN) at the award ceremony of the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo on 10th of December 2017)
The event will begin at 8:15 am, the time of the nuclear weapons dropoff on Hiroshima, at the Domplatz. The route leads to Hamburg Town Hall, where we will arrive at 10:30 am. Greetings will complete the event:
