Our social situation as students is precarious, that is undisputed. This is not a natural state of affairs, but the result of political decisions for which we can and will push through a change of course. Because investments in education and science are investments in the future!

The science authority writes that there is no money because of the war and the debt brake. Both are destructive instruments that have no future. According to its constitution, the City of Hamburg sees itself not only ‘in the spirit of peace as a mediator between peoples’ but also as a pioneer in the realisation of the global sustainability goals. The first goal is: ‘End poverty in all its forms everywhere’!

In reality, however, the situation is different. Students in Hamburg have to spend a large part of their time working to earn a living or pay for their accommodation.
High time to finally change that!

In 2022, joint student protests averted an increase in tuition fees of EUR 25 per semester. That shows: We can achieve something if we fight for it together. We were recently able to push through an increase of EUR 1.2 million per year in public funding for the Studierendenwerk, but even this does little to change the precarious situation of many students.

As student interest groups, we invite you to discuss with politicians from the democratic parties in the city parliament and to develop perspectives for meaningful studying in Hamburg that is characterised by curiosity instead of existential fears and works for sustainable social development.

The event is intended to be the starting point for further improvements that we can fight for together. Be part of this change!
