Solidarity with the organizers of the "We want our world back!" conference! 

What happened?

This weekend the internationalist conference was supposed to take place in the Audimax of the University of Hamburg. The conference, for which more than 1,300 people have announced their attendance, was organized long in advance by the AStA of the University of Hamburg together with the Network for an Alternative Quest and is part of the series "Challenging Capitalist Modernity", which has been taking place at the university for years.

Now the president of the university, on the advice of the Office for the "Verfassungsschutz", has cancelled the organizers' rooms at short notice. The reason for the cancellation is that Kurdish groups are also involved in the organization.
It is not the first time that a university presidency in Hamburg tries to withdraw rooms for events from the AStA. Already in 2017, the then president of HAW wanted to cancel the rooms for a G20 action conference at short notice. 
We did not put up with that then and we will not put up with it now and in the future.
In 2017, the Court ruled that the G20 Action Conference could take place in the rooms of HAW.
But the fact that in 2017 and today the student unions have to fight in court to make social and system-critical events at the universities, because the university management opposes them, is an indictment of a university management in a democratic society.
Political and social education belongs to the universities.
One of the tasks of the student bodies, as laid down in the "Hamburger Hochschulgesetz", is the political education of students. 
The capitalist system we live in is omnipresent and this makes it even more necessary to show alternative perspectives and offer space for discussions to give people the opportunity to form their own opinion.

Now, once again, the fascist face of the "Verfassungsschutz" is revealed: Opinions that deviate from the agenda are being criminalized and censored. 
That the president of the UHH uses his position of power to block this task is frightening. Here we see a very clear encroachment on the freedom of opinion and that of science.

The freedom of teaching and science as well as the freedom of expression must be defended by all means.
